As Medical Director of TLC Laser Eye Centers – Charlotte, Dr. Scott Jaben is one of the most experienced refractive surgeons in the region having performed more than 20,000 LASIK procedures. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and is one of the co-founding surgeons for TLC Charlotte which opened in 1997. Dr. Jaben is proud to offer Custom Wavefront LASIK and Bladeless LASIK as well as Wavefront PRK. His laser experience includes some of the best excimer lasers in the world including the Bausch and Lomb Technolas 217, the VISX Star S4 IR and most recently the Alcon Wavelight EX500 and FS200.
Education / Training
Dr. Jaben received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal diseases fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, one of the premiere eye centers in the United States. He also served as Chief Resident and as a clinical instructor on the faculty there.

Dr. Jaben has been the Medical Director for TLC Laser Eye Centers in Charlotte since it opened in 1997. He is also a LASIK patient having had LASIK himself in 1999. Dr. Jaben has a successful medical / surgical private practice with Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Associates. He is a well-respected ophthalmologist with over 35 years of experience specializing in LASIK, PRK, NO needle NO stich cataract surgery with monofocal, ReSTOR and toric lens implants and also Implantable Contact Lens surgery. Dr. Jaben lectures and provides clinical training for eye doctors in the Charlotte area and also at refractive conferences throughout the state. He is also published in several medical journals. Dr. Jaben remains active with several civic and athletic organizations in the greater Charlotte community.
Memberships/Affiliations
Currently, Dr. Jaben is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and an active member in the Mecklenburg County Medical Society. Dr. Jaben has served as a director on the executive board of the Mecklenburg County Medical Society, twice Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Carolinas Medical Center, Chairman of the Board of the Charlotte Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and a member of the Diabetes Coalition of Union County. In his spare time, Dr. Jaben enjoys backpacking and mountain climbing. He has climbed some of the most beautiful and challenging mountain ranges in North America.
